How much does a wedding photographer cost in Malta?
About €1,000 to €2,400 for a full day, and about €300 to €800 for a short civil wedding or elopement. Most photographers price a wedding by the number of hours they stay. Some examples from published price lists:
- AldoPics charges €495 for up to 4 hours and €995 for up to 8 hours, VAT included.
- A wedding studio in Lija charges €290 for 2 hours and €1,090 for up to 9 hours.
- Another wedding photographer charges €750 for a 3 hour elopement and €1,500 to €2,400 for 6 to 10 hours, with a second photographer included.
- A third photographer starts at €800 for a half day and €1,300 for a full day.
A higher price usually buys more hours, more edited photos and a second photographer. With two, one can be with the bride while the other is with the groom.
Video is a separate booking. AldoPics adds a videographer for €140 an hour, or you can book one yourself from the videographers in Malta, such as Eric Bartolo.
How much is a photographer for a Holy Communion or Confirmation?
About €200 to €350, depending on whether the photographer stays for the church only or for the party too. VPDigital publishes three options:
- €190 for a 45 minute outdoor session before the day.
- €220 for up to an hour at the church, with 30 edited photos.
- €350 for up to 2.5 hours at the church and the party, with 60 edited photos.
Church permits are not included, and some locations add a travel fee. Many wedding photographers cover Communions, Confirmations and christenings too. Visuals of Kyle, for example, does both, so ask a photographer you like for their Communion price even if their website shows only weddings.
How much is a family, couple or portrait photo shoot?
About €120 to €250 for a session of an hour to an hour and a half.
- A portrait and event photographer starts at €120 an hour for portraits and €170 an hour for couples and engagement shoots.
- Levytsky charges €250 for 90 minutes with 90 photos, and €400 for three hours with 180. The longer session is also meant for business and fashion shoots.
Ask how many edited photos you get, and whether you choose them or the photographer does.
How much is a photographer for an event or party?
Our ballpark is €100 to €150 an hour. Few Malta photographers publish an event rate, so this is our own estimate. It sits between what photographers charge for an extra hour at a wedding or Communion, €80 to €105, and the one event rate we found published, from €150 an hour.
For a birthday, a party or a company evening, ask for a price for the exact hours you need and say roughly how many guests will come. If you are planning the whole event, our guide to what a party costs in Malta covers venues, DJs and entertainers, and you can find event planners in Malta too.
How much does property photography cost in Malta?
About €150 to €320 per property, depending on how many photos you need. Milliways Studio charges €150 for up to 15 photos, €220 for up to 25 and €320 for 35 to 40. Drone photos add €120. Ask whether you may use the photos on any website or only the one you named.
What costs extra?
Extra hours, a second photographer, albums and travel to Gozo. VAT can add 18% if it is not included.
| Extra | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Each extra hour on the day | €80 to €105 |
| Second photographer | €75 to €100 an hour, or €350 to €590 a day |
| Printed album | From about €190 |
| Travel to Gozo | €100 to €150 |
Most price lists do not say whether VAT is included. Ask, because the standard 18% rate under the VAT Act turns €1,000 into €1,180.
To hold a date, photographers ask for a booking fee of €50 to €450, taken off the final bill. Some take nothing and ask for payment after the shoot.
How do you choose a photographer in Malta?
Judge photographers on complete galleries, and get every detail of the package in writing.
- Ask for one or two complete galleries from real shoots. A website shows only the best photos.
- Send two or three photographers the same details: the date, the place, the hours and what you want photographed. You can message photographers on Dapperlance from their listing for free.
- Compare the hours, the number of edited photos, the extras and VAT.
- Agree the price, hours, number of photos, delivery date and booking fee in writing.
Mistakes to avoid
- Comparing packages by price alone. €1,000 for 9 hours and €1,000 for 4 hours are not the same offer.
- Booking the wedding photographer late. Popular photographers fill their wedding dates early. Ask as soon as your date and venue are fixed.
- Forgetting the extras. Gozo travel, church permits, an album and VAT can add a few hundred euro.
- Not asking how you may use the photos. Personal use is normal. Using them to promote a business may need a separate agreement.
