This guide shows what a party costs in Malta in 2026, apart from the food. A 45-minute kids’ show starts at about €190 plus VAT, a party venue package for 10 children costs €225 to €275, and a photo booth runs €300 to €650 plus VAT. Below you will find the published prices for entertainers, venues, DJs, photo booths and live music, three sample budgets, how far ahead to book, and the rules on noise and cancelling. For the food itself, see our catering cost guide.

Figures were last verified in October 2026. Every price comes from a Malta provider’s own website or from Maltese law on legislation.mt, linked at first mention. Where nothing is published we give our own ballpark and say so. Prices change and every provider quotes your date on its own terms, so treat this as a rough guide and confirm before you pay. This is general information, not professional advice on noise, permits, contracts or tax, and Dapperlance accepts no responsibility for decisions based on it.

How much does a party cost in Malta?

The entertainment for a party in Malta costs from about €40 for a face painter to €890 and up for a wedding DJ, and a full kids’ party at a venue costs €225 to €275 for 10 children. Few providers put prices online. The ones that do give a good picture of the going rate:

What you hire Published price, 2026 What it buys
Kids’ show €190 to €280 plus VAT 45 minutes, up to 30 children
Kids’ animation with a character From €210 plus VAT 90 minutes of games
Face painting From €40 Painter and materials
Kids’ party venue €225 to €275 10 children with food
Photo booth €300 to €650 plus VAT 2 to 6 hours
Wedding DJ package From €890 plus VAT DJ, sound and basic lighting
Party DJ €300 to €600 plus VAT Our ballpark, not a published price

Most of these prices are quoted before 18% VAT, so a €210 show costs you €247.80. Some smaller providers are exempt and charge no VAT at all. More on that in the rules section.

What does a kids’ party entertainer cost?

A 45-minute show costs €190 to €280 plus VAT and 90 minutes of character games costs from €210 plus VAT at the one animator that publishes its prices. Most of the kids’ party entertainers in Malta, including the magicians we checked, quote on request.

The animator’s show list prices each show separately, all for one show in Malta:

  • Disco show from €190, bubble shows €200 to €220, a confetti show from €230 and a paper show from €275, each 45 minutes.
  • Kids’ animation for ages 4 to 8 with a character such as a princess, a superhero or a pirate: 90 minutes from €210.
  • Christmas shows €200 to €280 and Halloween shows €200 to €350, sold in December and October only.
  • A Holy Communion, school or club show for a group of up to 150 from €190, at one fixed price per group.

The standard shows are for up to 30 children. Travel in Malta is included and Gozo costs €150 extra. The animator’s FAQ says it usually takes no deposit and you pay after the party.

A face painter charges from €40 for face and hand painting, from €50 with balloon modelling, and from €135 with a 45-minute magic show. The price depends on the hours and the number of children. One painter does up to 12 full designs an hour, so 20 children take about an hour and 40 minutes. You provide a table and chairs where needed.

Is a party venue package cheaper than a party at home?

For 20 children a venue package costs about €405 to €660 with food, which is close to the cost of an entertainer and food at home. The venue adds the space, the rides and the clean-up. A party at home gives you more time and lets you invite the adults for free.

Venue Package price For 20 children
Splaffy’s Fun Park, 2.5 hours €225 for 10, then €18 a child €405
Mediterraneo Marine Park, 4.5 hours €275 for 10, then €20 a child €475
The Eden, 1 hour room plus an activity €26 to €33 a child, minimum 10 €520 to €660

The birthday child goes free at the first two. Both include a meal and a drink, a reserved area with a cake table and a party coordinator. The fun park package includes unlimited use of its trampoline, bouncy castles and rides. The marine park gives the birthday child a printed group photo with a dolphin, lets two adults in free, charges €10 for each extra adult and asks for a €50 deposit once your date is confirmed. The Eden lets you bring your own cake at no charge.

No bouncy castle hire company we checked publishes a price. They all ask you to call or message for a quote, so ask what is included: delivery, set-up, how long you keep it, and whether someone stays to supervise.

How much does a DJ cost in Malta?

The only DJ company in Malta that publishes prices charges from €890 plus VAT for a wedding package, and no DJ publishes a price for a smaller party. Our ballpark for a birthday or house party is €300 to €600 plus VAT for three to four hours with the DJ’s own sound.

The wedding DJ company starts its packages at €890 plus VAT for a DJ with professional sound and basic lighting, for a reception of about five hours. Its smallest booking, music for the ceremony only, starts at €290. A party DJ for a few hours sits between those two numbers, which is where our ballpark comes from. The same company says a saxophonist takes the package to about €1,790, so the sax adds about €900, and a full line-up with sax, cello, a singer, a light show and staging comes to about €2,850. Every quote adds a set-up fee that depends on the venue, plus a fee for Gozo.

DJ SAR, a Malta DJ and sound company listed on Dapperlance, shows what a small package covers without giving a price. Its Essential package for private parties includes a PA for up to 150 guests, basic lighting, one wireless microphone, set-up and breakdown, and a technician for four hours. Its DJs play for up to five hours, with extensions at the DJ’s discretion, and it takes a deposit when you book. Other DJs in Malta and sound hire firms quote the same way, so send the same brief to each: date, hours, number of guests, indoors or outdoors, and whether the venue has power and sound already.

What does a photo booth cost?

A photo booth with prints costs €350 to €650 plus VAT for two to six hours, and a drop-off digital booth costs €300 plus VAT. Two companies publish full price lists:

Booth Published price, plus VAT Hours
Photo booth, unlimited prints €425, €500, €550 2, 3, 4
Vintage booth with prints €350, €500, €650 2, 4, 6
Ring booth with prints €400, €475, €550 4, 5, 6
360 video booth, up to 6 people €350, €550, €750 2, 4, 6
Digital booth, drop-off €300 Up to 5

The first company, based in St Paul’s Bay, includes delivery, set-up and tear-down in Malta, and says its price can change with the type of event, the number of guests, the location and unusual hours. The second includes an attendant, lighting and props with every booth except the drop-off one. A third company’s 360 booth starts at €800 for two hours, its minimum booking. More booth, styling and sound hire firms are listed under event staff, equipment and decor.

What does live music cost?

No solo musician or band we checked in Malta publishes a price. The one published marker is about €900 for adding a saxophonist to a wedding DJ package. String quartets, harpists, guitarists and singers all quote per event, based on the date, the length of the set and the venue.

Saxophonist and bandleader Carlo Muscat is one of the musicians in Malta on Dapperlance, and like the others he takes bookings by message. When you ask for a quote, say how long you need music for, whether it is for a ceremony, a drinks reception or dancing, and whether the venue has a sound system.

What does a whole party cost? Three examples

A child’s birthday at home for 20 costs about €390 to €430, a family party for 60 at a venue about €2,500 to €3,000, and an evening party at home for 40 adults about €950 to €1,850 before drinks. Each example uses the published prices in this guide and in the catering guide. The sums are ours.

1. Birthday at home, 20 children

Item Source Cost
90-minute animation with a character €210 plus VAT €247.80
Kids’ party food €4.50 to €6 a head €90 to €120
Two patisserie cakes for 8 to 10 each €25 to €30 each €50 to €60
Total About €390 to €430

That is about the same as the cheapest venue package for 20 children. A face painter adds from €40.

2. Family party for 60 at a venue: Communion, christening or a big birthday

This one uses Il Cortile, a restaurant that publishes its party packages, with 45 adults and 15 children. All its prices are before VAT.

Item Source Cost
Standing reception, 60 guests €25 a head, minimum 30 €1,500
Open bar, beer and wine, 3 hours, 45 adults €8 a head €360
Soft drinks bar, 15 children €5 a head €75
VAT at 18% on the venue €348.30
Group kids’ show, 45 minutes €190 plus VAT €224.20
Photo booth, 2 hours €425 plus VAT €501.50
Total About €3,000

Without the photo booth it comes to about €2,500. The venue charges €5 a head for every hour the bar runs over.

3. Evening party at home, 40 adults

Item Source Cost
DJ, three to four hours Our ballpark €300 to €600 plus VAT
Delivered party food €7.50 to €22 a head €300 to €880
Digital photo booth, drop-off €300 plus VAT €354
Total About €950 to €1,850

Drinks and the DJ’s VAT come on top. For bar packages and the minimum orders on party food, see the catering cost guide.

How far ahead should you book?

Book a face painter at least two to three weeks ahead, a December kids’ show as early as you can, and a summer wedding DJ 12 to 18 months ahead.

Booking How far ahead Who says so
Face painter At least 2 to 3 weeks, weekends fill first The face painter
Kids’ show in December Early, “December dates go first” The animator
Summer wedding DJ 12 to 18 months The wedding DJ company

Read the cancellation terms before you confirm. The animator’s terms are a fair example: free to cancel seven days or more before, 50% of the fee within seven days, and the full fee within 48 hours. The marine park asks for a €50 deposit, and DJ SAR takes a deposit set in your contract.

What rules apply to a party in Malta?

No law sets a quiet hour for a party at home, but amplified music loud enough to bother the neighbours is an offence at any hour, and an open-air party at a venue must end by 2am.

  • Noise at home. The Code of Police Laws, article 41, says no one may use a loudspeaker or amplifier, on any premises, so loudly that it causes a nuisance to the neighbours. The Criminal Code, article 338, also makes it an offence to disturb people’s sleep at night. Neither sets a fixed hour, so the test is whether the neighbours are bothered. Tell them in advance and turn it down when asked.
  • Open-air parties at a venue. The rules for places of entertainment say any party, concert or disco in the open air must end by 2am at the latest. They cover licensed venues and open-air places where there is entertainment or dancing. Ask your venue what time the music has to stop before you book the DJ.
  • Parties in a public place. Under the Trading Licences Act, a disco, ball or dance in a public place needs a permit from the Commissioner of Police. That rule is written for public places, not for a party in your own home.
  • Cancelling an online booking. You normally get 14 days to cancel something you book online. The Consumer Rights Regulations take that right away for catering and leisure services booked for a set date. A party booking usually falls into that list, so the provider’s written terms are what count.
  • VAT and receipts. The VAT Act sets VAT at 18%. A performer who earns under €35,000 a year can register under Article 11 and charge no VAT. Either way you are owed a fiscal receipt or an invoice when you pay. The Act does not let Article 11 providers skip it.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Comparing a price with VAT to one without. €210 plus VAT is €247.80. Put every quote on the same basis.
  • Booking a paper or confetti show in your living room. The animator asks for a separate room with little furniture and says it cannot promise to pick up every last piece.
  • Forgetting the Gozo fee. The animator adds €150 for Gozo, and the wedding DJ company charges for the ferry and travel time.
  • Inviting more than 30 children to a standard show. Bigger groups, such as a Communion party, are a separate booking with its own price.
  • Booking the DJ before checking the venue’s end time. An open-air party must stop by 2am, so ask the venue for its end time first.
  • Forgetting power and space. A disco show outdoors needs electricity and darkness, a photo booth needs floor space, and a face painter needs a table and chairs.
  • Counting only the children at a venue. Extra adults cost €6 to €10 each at the venues that publish it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit for a party at home in Malta?

No law we found requires a permit for a private party at home. A disco or dance in a public place needs a permit from the Commissioner of Police. At home, the rule that matters is the noise one: amplified music must not be so loud that it causes a nuisance to the neighbours.

How many children can one entertainer handle?

The animator’s standard shows are for up to 30 children, and it books bigger groups separately. A face painter does about 12 full designs an hour, so plan about an hour and 40 minutes for 20 children.

Is VAT included in party entertainment prices?

Usually not. Most published prices in Malta are quoted plus 18% VAT, and the kids’ venue packages do not say. A small provider registered under Article 11 charges no VAT. Ask before you compare.

Can I cancel a party booking and get my money back?

It depends on the provider’s terms. The 14-day right to cancel an online booking does not cover leisure services booked for a set date. One animator lets you cancel free up to seven days before, and charges 50% within seven days and the full fee within 48 hours.

Reminder: prices in this guide are estimates as of October 2026, taken from the price lists that party venues, entertainers, DJs and photo booth companies in Malta publish, plus our own ballpark for a party DJ, and from Maltese law on legislation.mt. Every provider quotes your date on its own terms, so confirm the price, the VAT, the hours, the travel fee and the cancellation terms before you pay. For anything about noise or permits for a specific event, ask your venue or the Police. More guides to hiring and freelancing in Malta are on the guides page.
