What do adult evening classes cost in Malta?
A government Lifelong Learning evening course in Malta costs €18.63 for a course of up to 14 weeks, and private tutors and agencies quote per hour and per subject. The course fees come from the Lifelong Learning Directorate's published fee schedule and the Malta Society of Arts course list, checked September 2026. Private rates vary with the subject and level, so treat these as a guide.
| Class | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Lifelong Learning evening course, up to 14 weeks | €18.63 |
| Lifelong Learning course, 14 to 32 weeks | €34.94 |
| Lifelong Learning intermediate or advanced level course | €46.59 |
| Beginners' sewing course, Malta Society of Arts, 22.5 hours | €86, half price for members of 3 or more years |
| Private tutor or agency, any subject | Per hour, quoted by subject and level |
Three things move the price. Provider: government courses are subsidised and cost a fraction of private lessons, but run on a fixed calendar with set start dates. Format: one to one tuition costs more per hour than a group, and an agency adds matching and replacement if the first tutor is not the right fit. Level: exam and professional certificate preparation is priced above general interest classes.
How to choose a tutor or class in Malta
Ask what the lesson is working towards, and how progress will be measured. For a certificate or exam, ask the tutor or agency which syllabus they follow and how many students they have prepared for it. For an agency, ask how the tutor is chosen, whether you can change tutor, and whether you pay the agency or the tutor.
Common mistakes to avoid: buying a long block of lessons before a trial session, missing the Lifelong Learning registration window (courses fill up and start on set dates), and choosing a general class when the goal is a specific exam.
