Three things move the price. Season: English schools price July and August highest because of the summer student influx, and a spring or autumn course is cheaper and calmer. Group size: a group of eight to twelve is the standard price, mini groups and one to one cost several times more per hour. Purpose: exam preparation for IELTS or Cambridge, and business English, are priced above general courses.
How to choose a language school or tutor in Malta
English language schools in Malta must be licensed by the ELT Council, which publishes the list of licensed schools, so check it before paying a deposit. A licence runs four years and covers teacher qualifications and premises. For other languages there is no licensing, so ask a tutor about their qualification (a degree in the language or a teaching certificate such as CELTA for English), how long they have taught, and whether they teach to a level framework so you can see progress.
For Maltese, be clear about your goal. Everyday conversation, and the language test for long term residence, are different courses.
