What does a massage cost in Malta?
A 60 minute full body massage in Malta typically costs €40 to €70 at an independent therapist or clinic, and €70 to €125 at a hotel spa. The setting moves the price most: a hotel spa charges more for a similar hour, and some hotel spas include the pool and sauna in the price. At the same clinic, deep tissue and hot stone massages usually cost €5 to €10 more per hour than a relaxation massage, and at some clinics a 90 minute session is cheaper per hour. The town matters less than you might expect: the cheapest hours in the published price lists are at Thai clinics in St Julian's.
How to choose a massage therapist
Massage therapy has no dedicated state licence in Malta, so the checking is on you. Look for a recognised diploma such as VTCT, ITEC or CIBTAC, ask whether the therapist carries liability insurance, and read their reviews. If you need treatment for an injury rather than relaxation, ask specifically about sports or deep tissue experience, they are different skills from a relaxation massage.
Common mistakes to avoid: paying resort prices when an independent therapist offers the same treatment nearby for half the price, not mentioning a medical condition or pregnancy before the session starts, and leaving a weekend booking to the last minute. Most therapists want 24 to 48 hours notice, more in summer.
Mobile therapists bring a table and supplies to your home, and a home visit usually costs more than the same hour at a clinic: one clinic charges €50 for an hour on its premises and from €70 for a home visit. Couples massages are available at day spas and hotel spas, from about €160 for two for an hour.

Do hotel spas include the pool and sauna with a massage?
Some do. Carisma Spa includes its pools, saunas, jacuzzis and steam rooms with every massage, while The Phoenicia Malta sells spa entry separately at €40 for 120 minutes. Ask what is included before you compare prices.
Can I ask for a male or female therapist?
Yes, this is a completely normal request. State your preference when you book, most salons and mobile services will accommodate it where staffing allows.
Is massage therapy regulated in Malta?
No. Massage therapy is not one of the 20 professions regulated by the Council for the Professions Complementary to Medicine, so there is no state licence or register for massage therapists. Ask which qualification a therapist holds, for example a VTCT, ITEC or CIBTAC diploma, before you book.
How far ahead should I book?
